A Thanksgiving message to all who supported my campaign for Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia

A few mornings ago, I was grumbling as I was making my bed because maybe we needed new pillows. And then it occurred to me that some people didn’t have even a bed to make. And so I thanked the Lord.

It reminds me of a time that I read of a man who complained that he had no shoes but then he stopped complaining when he met a man who had no feet! And so he became thankful.

I tell you all of this because we are reminded to be thankful in all circumstances—even the man who had no feet, had something to be thankful for.

I am grateful to so many of you who sent in $3 and more to help my gubernatorial campaign move forward.

I am grateful to so many of you who knocked on doors, who made telephone calls, who wrote postcards, who sent letters to the editor, who defended what we stood for: lower taxes, safety and security in ensuring our law-enforcement and Department of corrections personnel would be honored, life, the pursuit of happiness, job creation, a good education for our children so that they will thrive and have a hope, and a future, and so much more!

I am especially grateful to those of you who were insulted, because of your support for me! I may not ever meet you, but do know that I’m aware you took slings and arrows all because of your support for me.

We live in a great country! But a country is only as great as the character of the people in her. We must never yield to those wishing to destroy our system of government, a constitutional republic; but we must always seek to make America better.

As President Kennedy stated (in his 1961 inaugural address), “the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.”  So, although we know that our rights are given to us by Almighty God, even so, every right has had to be fought for. Every. Single. One.

Therefore, we must continue to ensure that our rights are not taken from us; and that we must never leave the battlefield. America must remain a beacon of hope and liberty.

I am not leaving the battlefield.

As a US Marine, we are trained that forward is the only way. But, then, isn’t that the American way? Of course. So that means you are not leaving the battlefield either. Whatever, wherever and however your battlefield is, you will continue, you must continue as we seek to preserve America for the next generation—for our children and our children’s children.

We must make the darkness tremble!

A Happy Thanksgiving to you and to your families!

Sincerely,

Winsome Earle-Sears
Lt. Governor
Commonwealth of Virginia
