Winsome Earle-Sears Officially Qualifies for Virginia Gubernatorial Ballot

Winsome Earle-Sears Strongly Positioned to Become Virginia’s First Female Governor and the Nation’s First Black Female Governor

Richmond, VA — Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears today officially secured her place on the ballot for the 2025 Virginia gubernatorial election. When she is elected, Earle-Sears will make history as Virginia’s first female governor and the first Black woman to serve as governor in United States history. Her campaign has demonstrated overwhelming strength, securing nearly 20,000 signatures statewide while earning a broad coalition of endorsements from conservative leaders, law enforcement officials, and grassroots organizations across Virginia.

“I want to thank the tens of thousands of Virginians who want to keep common sense in the Commonwealth,” said Earle-Sears. “With their support, we will win this race. Today just reaffirms that we have got what it takes to make that happen. I am committed to leading our Commonwealth with integrity, vision, and a steadfast dedication to the values that make Virginia exceptional.”

Earle-Sears, who made history in 2021 as Virginia’s first female Lieutenant Governor and the first woman of color to hold statewide office, is running a campaign powered by momentum and a clear contrast with Abigail Spanberger. While Spanberger has championed the failed policies of Biden’s Washington—weakening public safety, driving up costs, and leaving Virginians behind—Earle-Sears has been fighting for Virginia. With the support of Virginians who are ready for real leadership, she is building unstoppable momentum toward victory in November.

Throughout her career, Earle-Sears has been a trailblazer. In 2001, she became the first Jamaican-born female Republican elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 90th district. Her tenure was marked by advocacy for veterans, educational reform, and economic development.

As Lieutenant Governor, Earle-Sears presides over the Virginia Senate, where she has championed policies aimed at reducing regulatory burdens, enhancing school choice, and supporting law enforcement. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing legislation that aligns with the aspirations of all Virginia’s citizens. Earle-Sears’s candidacy has garnered widespread support from community leaders, business owners, and grassroots organizations across the Commonwealth.

The 2025 gubernatorial election is set for November 4, 2025. Earle-Sears’ historic candidacy positions her as a formidable contender, reflecting the dynamic and evolving political landscape of Virginia.

Sears Stands with Trump, Calls Out Liberal Extremism in Virginia

Winsome Earle-Sears Stands with President Trump Against Liberal Extremism in Powerful New Video

Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears Earns Maggie’s List Endorsement in Virginia Governor Race

Endorsed by Maggie’s List, Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears strengthens her commitment to a prosperous, conservative future for Virginia.

Richmond, VA — Maggie’s List, a federal political action committee focused on electing conservative women to federal and statewide executive offices, announced it’s endorsement of Virginia Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears in her 2025 campaign for Governor of Virginia.

“I am deeply honored to have earned the support of Maggie’s List,” said Lt. Governor Earle-Sears. “Together, we are dedicated to advancing conservative values and fostering strong leadership. We share a common vision for a prosperous, secure future for our state, and I am proud to stand alongside you in championing policies that protect our families, uphold our freedoms, and preserve our way of life.”

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Lt. Governor Earle-Sears immigrated to the United States at the age of six. She proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and made history as the first female Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and the first Black woman to hold statewide office in the Commonwealth.

Maggie’s List first endorsed Earle-Sears during her successful run for Lieutenant Governor in 2021, and today’s endorsement marks Maggie’s List’s first since the 2024 campaign cycle.

“Virginians need a leader who will prioritize economic growth, and Lt. Governor Earle-Sears has proven herself to be someone who knows what it takes, and has what it takes, to help Virginians thrive,” said Maggie’s List Virginia Chairwoman Ashley Abplanalp. “Her pro-business policies, military service, and charitable work make her the obvious choice for those who care about improving the lives of all of our residents regardless of background. And personally, what I admire most about Lt. Governor Earle-Sears is her relatability to everyday Virginians. She has such a sincere ability to connect to anyone, regardless of the ‘walk’ in life they’re leading, and she genuinely wants all Virginians to prosper. We know that they will prosper if they elect Lt. Governor Earle-Sears as the next Virginia governor.”

Lt. Governor Earle-Sears made history in 2002 as the first Republican to be elected to a majority-Black House of Delegates district since 1865. Now as Lieutenant Governor, she presides over the Virginia Senate when in session. Additionally, she has served on the Virginia State Board of Education, the U.S. Census Bureau, the African American Committee, and the Advisory Committee on Women Veterans to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Before entering politics, Lt. Governor Earle-Sears worked as a program manager for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and as a VISTA volunteer. She is also a trained electrician and successful businesswoman. But what she is most proud of is her community work leading a men’s prison ministry and a women’s homeless shelter.

Background: Maggie’s List Endorsement

Maggie’s List is a federal political action committee (PAC) created to raise awareness and funds to increase the number of conservative women elected to federal public office and statewide executive office. Since 2010, this group of dedicated women has had an outstanding record of endorsing successful candidates for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, and other legislative bodies. Don’t Forget About These Crucial 2025 Races

With all eyes still fixated on Washington D.C. amid the start of President Donald Trump’s second term, several under-the-radar races happening this year are already heating up throughout the country. Here are a few of the most noteworthy elected offices up for grabs in 2025.

Perhaps the most closely watched contests in the country this year will take place in Virginia, where the top three executive posts in the state, along with all 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, are up for grabs.

Four years ago, incumbent Governor Glenn Youngkin shocked many in the political establishment when he became the first Republican to win statewide in the Old Dominion since 2009. Prior to his victory as a first-time candidate, many believed that the population explosion in the suburbs around Washington D.C. meant Virginia was a lost cause for the GOP.

Republican Winsome Earle-Sears also defeated her Democrat rival to become lieutenant governor that year, while Jason Miyares won the attorney general post, completing the GOP sweep. Republicans won back the House of Delegates as well, appearing to arrest Democrats’ momentum in Richmond.

A look into Virginia’s 2025 gubernatorial election

With the inauguration of President Trump set to be held on Monday, we Virginians aren’t too far out from our 2025 gubernatorial race; in fact, primaries are set to be held this June. So, where is the race currently at?

Currently, only two people have declared their candidacy in the race. On the Democratic side, there is Abigail Spanberger, the former U.S. Representative for Virginia’s 7th District. This district covers a chunk of the Commonwealth, spanning from just north of Richmond City to just south of Fairfax, although it was drastically redistricted while she was in office. She is also a former CIA operations officer. She announced her candidacy over a year ago now, and for a while, was the only person in the race.

Another Poll Confirms Tight Virginia Governor’s Race Between Spanberger and Earle-Sears

RICHMOND — Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears remains locked in a close race against both potential Democratic challengers, according to a new Mason-Dixon Poll released last week. The survey comes on the heels of an Emerson College poll from Thursday that also found Earle-Sears and former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger in a dead heat for Virginia’s governorship.

In the Mason-Dixon poll, Earle-Sears trails Spanberger 44% to 47%, while holding a slight lead over U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott, Newport News, with 46% to 44%. Scott, who has openly mused about running for governor as a Democrat, has not formally declared his candidacy but is considered by some a potential contender.

The Mason-Dixon results align with the tight contest suggested by Emerson’s findings, which showed Spanberger leading Earle-Sears 42% to 41%, with 4% backing another candidate and 13% undecided.

Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, noted that the race is likely to remain highly competitive but pointed to a key factor that could tip the scales: Donald Trump.

CNU Wasson Center Poll has Democrat Spanberger with Slight Lead Over Republican Winsome-Sears in a Governor’s Race

NEWPORT NEWS, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A new CNU Wasson Center Poll taking the temperature across Virginia on a variety of issues has Democrat Abigail Spanberger slightly ahead of Republican Winsome Earle-Sears in a November Governor’s race. Poll research director Rebecca Bromley-Trujillo they have Spanberger five points ahead of Earle-Sears — 44-to-39-percent. The error margin is 3.6%.

She says a lot of things are open here 10-months ahead of the election. First of all, other candidates may enter the party nomination races, and these are just the front-runners at this time. Second of all, there’s room for Earle-Sears to grow. Right now, Democrats are allied behind Spanberger more than Republicans are behind Earle-Sears, but Bromley-Trujillo says party faithful tend to rally behind their candidate closer to the election.

Also, Spanberger enjoys a 64-to-8-percent lead among black voters, but the 24-percent undecided is twice as large as white voters… so she says both campaigns need to focus a lot on black voters. Click here for the entire poll.

Spanberger and Earle-Sears neck-and-neck in fundraising battle

The Virginia governor’s race is heating up as the latest fundraising reports reveal an early financial showdown between former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, who is seeking the Democratic nomination, and Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, the likely Republican nominee. Both candidates have brought in millions, but Spanberger’s head start has left her campaign with a sizable cash advantage.

The Democrat from Prince William, who launched her campaign in November 2023, reported raising $2,501,153, in the most recent fundraising period between September and December 2024, according to data from the Virginia Public Access Project, a nonprofit tracking money in politics. Her campaign now sits on an impressive $6.5 million war chest as of Dec. 31.

“We’ve seen an outpouring of grassroots support over the last year,” said Samson Signori, Spanberger’s campaign manager. “Virginians across all of our counties and cities are excited about Abigail Spanberger serving them as the next governor of Virginia.”

Spanberger’s team credits her vision for Virginia, including plans to invest in education, economic growth, and protecting rights, for energizing supporters.

Meanwhile, Earle-Sears, who announced her campaign in September, narrowly outraised Spanberger in the last four months of 2024, pulling in $2,563,086 in the same period. The lieutenant governor, however, reported $2.1 million in cash on hand at year’s end — significantly less than Spanberger’s reserves.

Earle-Sears Raises More Than $3 Million In First Four Months

The campaign received nearly 20,000 contributions from more than 10,000 supporters

Richmond, Va. –– The Winsome Earle-Sears for Governor campaign, and its affiliated organizations, today announced that they raised more than $3 million since Lieutenant Governor Earle-Sears launched her campaign just four months ago. She received contributions from all 50 states, and from thousands of supporters in the Commonwealth. Nearly 90% of supporters contributed $100 or less at an average contribution of $35, and more than one-third have made multiple contributions to the campaign post-launch.

“The fight for Virginia’s future is in full-swing and the rush of grassroots and financial support for Winsome over just four months has placed our campaign in a position of great strength,” said Tucker Obenshain, Earle-Sears’ finance director. “Winsome’s American Dream story –– a Jamaican immigrant, a Marine veteran, a business owner, and now Virginia’s lieutenant governor –– and her leadership over the last three years in delivering meaningful results for the Commonwealth has energized voters in our Party and far beyond. Abigail Spanberger got a year’s jump raising money, but we are solidly on track to have the resources we’ll need to beat her.”

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Earle-Sears immigrated to the United States at the age of six. She is proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps. In addition to her various appointments, she has served as the Vice President of the Virginia State Board of Education; and as a presidential appointee to the US Census Bureau, as co-chair of the African American Committee; and the Advisory Committee on Women Veterans to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Winsome was first elected in 2002 to a majority Black House of Delegates district, a first for a Republican in Virginia since 1865. She is the first female Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the first Black female elected to statewide office. As Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears presides over the Senate when they are in session.

A former program manager for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and VISTA volunteer, Winsome is a trained electrician and successful businesswoman. However, Winsome is most proud of her community work leading a men’s prison ministry and as director of a women’s homeless shelter. She holds a B.A. in English with a minor in Economics, and an M.A. in Organizational Leadership, with a concentration in Government. Winsome and her husband, Terence, have two daughters Katia and Janel, in addition to DeJon, and granddaughters Victoria and Faith, who are now looking into the face of God.
