CNU Wasson Center Poll has Democrat Spanberger with Slight Lead Over Republican Winsome-Sears in a Governor’s Race

NEWPORT NEWS, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A new CNU Wasson Center Poll taking the temperature across Virginia on a variety of issues has Democrat Abigail Spanberger slightly ahead of Republican Winsome Earle-Sears in a November Governor’s race. Poll research director Rebecca Bromley-Trujillo they have Spanberger five points ahead of Earle-Sears — 44-to-39-percent. The error margin is 3.6%.

She says a lot of things are open here 10-months ahead of the election. First of all, other candidates may enter the party nomination races, and these are just the front-runners at this time. Second of all, there’s room for Earle-Sears to grow. Right now, Democrats are allied behind Spanberger more than Republicans are behind Earle-Sears, but Bromley-Trujillo says party faithful tend to rally behind their candidate closer to the election.

Also, Spanberger enjoys a 64-to-8-percent lead among black voters, but the 24-percent undecided is twice as large as white voters… so she says both campaigns need to focus a lot on black voters. Click here for the entire poll.
